30 entrants each were allotted to the mens/ladies single disciplines (only 28 men and 27 women competed), 20 entrants for pairs, and 24 entrants for the dance competition. The number of entrants per country is based on the placements received at the prior World Championships. The number of qualified entrants allowed for each country are listed after each discipline (deleted if the country didn't qualify an entrant).

Each country's skating federation determines which athletes will be chosen to attend the Olympics. It is possible for a federation to send fewer athletes than the maximum qualified by the country, based on the minimum requirements mandated by that particular skating federation or Olympic organization. In that instance the next qualifying country has the option to take the vacated spot.

Stand-by entries are indicated by "* # x", the "x" indicating their order placement in the stand-by list.

*** 2002 OLYMPIC FIGURE SKATING NEWS ***

Russia qualified the greatest number of entrants (11) out of the total possible per country (12). Every one of these entrants placed in the top ten of their discipline, and 7 of the 11 placed in the top five.

2/15/2002 - The IOC awards a dual gold medal to Jamie Sale and David Pelletier for the pairs competition after the French judge was suspended for misconduct during the event.

2/12/02 - Just hours before the short program, Emmanuel Sandhu (CAN) announces his withdrawal from the Winter Olympics due to injury.

Sarah Abitbol and Stephane Bernadis, France's pairs champions in figure skating, were forced to withdraw from the Winter Olympics because of an injury. Abitbol tore her Achilles' tendon during a practice session on February 2, 2002. The team returned to France and will not be replaced.
